In collaboration with our art & collectable partners Dutch Design Week presents a DDW talks diving into the eco system of collectible design.

Specialists from both the art- and design industry share their insights and reflect on the latest initiatives to expand the collectible design market, as well as the market for tech and experience- based art. If you want to get an insight into the art business DRIFT and Maarten Baas share their knowledge in an exclusive DDW19 Masterclass: how to build your own art business.

Studio Drift

Studio Drift was founded in 2007 by Lonneke Gordijn (Alkmaar, 1980) and Ralph Nauta (Swindon, United Kingdom, 1978). The designers met while students at the Design Academy in Eindhoven, where they graduated in 2005. Their passion for nature, science fiction and technology blends in their site-specific installations and interactive sculptures.

Kiki van Eijk

Kiki van Eijk was born in 1978 in Tegelen, the Netherlands, and Joost van Bleiswijk was born in 1976 in Delft. They live and work near Eindhoven. Working as independent designers as well as collaboratively, they represent a new generation of Dutch designers. Together, and individually, using a mix of contemporary and traditional Dutch influences, they create playful designs and products that have gained them international recognition.

Thomas Ballouhey

Thomas Ballouhey is an object designer based in Eindhoven, Netherlands. Graduated in 2016 from the Design Academy Eindhoven, Contextual Design Department.

Aidan Walker MA (Cantab), FRSA

Aidan’s MA in History from Cambridge University was a highly appropriate education, he claims, for his ‘first career’ in furniture design and cabinetmaking – itself an admirable preparation for 20 years of writing for, editing and directing design magazines. He has editorially directed almost all the professional UK design magazines, including FX, Blueprint, Design, Grand Designs, icon and onoffice. Maarten Baas

Maarten Baas (1978) graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2002. Baas is considered one of the most influential creators of the early twenty-first century, stating his work straddles boundaries between art and design. He occupies a unique position in the field, embodying conceptual art, craftsmanship, installation, public space and performance into his oeuvre. He is known for his rebellious, intellectual, theatrical and artistic style.

Together with key figures from the field of design and beyond, we explore a diversity of design disciplines, discussing current affairs, reflecting on the past and casting our minds into the future.
