Present their stories.

Part of TERRA_TORY, commissioned by FABRIKAAT

Billie van Katwijk preservates the landscape. From the local river clay she made an amfora that can conserve the raw clay. A relict, a strange remainder from another era. She lets you reverberate about an area that is no longer there, and about the moment it disappeared.

Studio Joachim-Morineau research Nijmegen’s river clays to find their aesthetic qualities and technical behavior, fired at different temperatures.
Inspired by the terra sigillata technique, practiced in ancient Rome, they use the finest particles of different clays in different ways. Their water jug is a functional and visual translation of the research.

TERRA_TORY
TERRA_TORY
New stories from the land we live on.
Through centuries the river Waal has defined the landscape and culture of Nijmegen. This area has a rich cultural heritage based on clay; from the Iron Age up until the brick industry. With TERRA_TORY, Fabrikaat sheds new light on the river clay that, due to the current radical urbanization of Nijmegen-North, is becoming decreasingly visible.
Fabrikaat organizes placemaking through art and design.
