Chairwave

Chairs that connect people

All week at Klokgebouw | Hall 4 | Strijp-S

The Dutch design studio VOUW presents the Chairwave; a special chair concept that makes people in public spaces start a conversation with each other. A drop in the ocean in the fight against the growing problem of loneliness in our society.

A conversation with a stranger can have a positive influence on well-being. Research by VOUW shows that people not only do not mind the conversation with a stranger: they even like it, but do not dare to take the initiative quickly. With the Chairwave, VOUW wants to encourage contact between strangers in the public space. As soon as someone sits down, the seats next to that person unfold. The perfect reason for the next sitting person to start a conversation. VOUW is constantly researching and applying new technology in design, to make the world a little better. With this project VOUW wants to make people aware of the value of a real conversation and to establish a connection with each other.

VOUW

The Amsterdam based design studio VOUW was founded by Mingus Vogel and Justus Bruns. The duo has set itself the goal of translating their joint technological knowledge into physical installations and products. The relationship between people and technology is central here, and VOUW hopes to make people aware of the present and the future. They previously did that with projects in Beijing, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Amsterdam.
