Burned

a collection of metal furniture created with heat

All week at Piet Hein Eek | Strijp T+R

Luuk van Laarhoven researched how the colouring of metals responds to the application of heat. To understand this natural process experiments were done on a variety of different metal surfaces. The Burned Collection is the result of this research

Burned, a collection of metal furniture created with heat.

Prior to graduating from the Design Academy Eindhoven, Luuk van Laarhoven researched how the colouring of metals responds to the application of heat.

To understand the behaviour of metallic elements, experiments were done on a variety of different metal surfaces, both mechanically and by hand. It is the methodology developed through these experiments that continues to be applied in the Burned Collection.

Luuk van Laarhoven uses an old metalworking process in a different context and applies it to modern objects. The result is a constant and controllable method that generates an array of colours through a natural process.

Studio Luuk van Laarhoven

Studio Luuk van Laarhoven is an Eindhoven based studio interested in projects that find their origin in natural processes and around pure materials.
In order to create a product, research is done on a specific subject to determine where valuable aspects are hidden.
Through experiments these aspects can be revealed and may form a starting point for an product or object.

With a craving for craftsmanship and the making process, everything is hand made and realized within the studio.
