An ode to the making process and the makers
‘The making of’ is the theme for the 15th Dutch Design Week. The anniversary year is all about the making process and the makers. From 22 until 30 October in Eindhoven 2500 national and international designers will be showing their latest work and the best of what design has to offer. The complete programme will be announced in September. Just take a look at what’s in store at www.ddw.nl.
The making of
With this theme, DDW places the making process centre stage, honours the makers and tackles alienation. This takes place through revealing how products and services that we use every day are made, or where they are made.
Martijn Paulen, DDW director: ‘We show that Dutch designers are critical and enterprising, make a lot themselves, but also tackle social issues. With ‘The making of’ we stimulate and appreciate both the investigative process and the end result. In doing this, DDW offers a look behind the scenes, but most especially a preview.’
To support the theme, we have entered a collaboration with the agency Fabrique and together we are working on a public campaign in which ‘The making of’ has been transformed into an invitation to come and experience, admire and discover design.
André Bouwman, Creative Director Fabrique: ‘No single design process is the same. Throughout the thinking up, making, successes and failures each designer has their own mantras, adages or pearls of wisdom. This campaign is an ode to the making process and the makers..’
The organisation expects 2500 participants this year, who will present work and concepts distributed across 100 locations. The complete programme will be announced in September. The first elements are already online.
Amongst the regular highlights are the Graduation Show at the Design Academy Eindhoven, the presentation of the annual Dutch Design Awards the Dutch Invertuals show and Modebelofte. The Designhuis, Van Abbemuseum, Kazerne, MU, Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie, Piet Hein Eek, Sectie-C, TAC and Yksi will be holding international exhibitions. In the Klokgebouw this year (under the art directorship of Overtreders W) the exhibitions It’s Your World, in collaboration with DDW ambassador Bas van Abel (Fairphone), and Mind the Step by Delft, Twente and Eindhoven Universities of Technology.
The 15th Dutch Design Week, the biggest design event in Northern Europe, will run from Saturday 22 until Sunday 30 October in Eindhoven (the Netherlands). For more information and the programme, visit www.ddw.nl. Or follow DDW through Facebook, Instagram and Twitter (#DDW16).
