Dutch Design Week is an annual highlight for the creative sector. With work by 2500 designers, covering just about every area in our society, the event kicks up some dust for debate and delivers food for thought. 

Debates, lectures and seminars during Dutch Design Week

There are more than 100 lectures, meetings and seminars on the programme. Speakers include Agatha Haines, Rachel Armstrong, Anab Jain (Superflux), Koert van Mensvoort, Stephan Petermann (OMA/AMO), Victor Knaap (MediaMonks and Dutch Creative Council), Jurgen Bey.

NOW FUTURE TALK SHOW #3
Boosted by the developments in technology the world is changing at a rapid rate. Technology and design play such important roles in our lives that people change as a result. What can we expect? During the 3rd edition of the live talk show Now Future, professionals sketch future scenarios. They do this upon the invitation of DDW ambassador Koert van Mensvoort (Next Nature Network), who is to launch a new nature movement during this evening. More info.

DRIVE CROSS-OVERS
During the 2nd edition of the Design Research & Innovation Festival DRIVE, the knowledge and innovation network CLICKNL demonstrates how the creative industry deploys research and design to tackle current complex challenges. Day 1 deals with themes like Business Innovation, New Retail and Smart Industries. On day 2 it is all about the circular economy and design. HIGHTECH MEETS DESIGN
Tech designers, trend analysts and design scientists put their smart heads together and kick up some dust during a seminar about high-tech and design thinking. With the public, they are going to go in search of product innovation in an interactive workshop. More info and tickets (€ 95).

DDW GOES DIGITAL #3
Digitalisation has changed our lives markedly, and the developments follow each other at an increasing rate. During the 3rd edition of DDW goes Digital, the Dutch Digital Agencies, Dutch Digital Design and DDW reflect on the most appealing developments. Various Dutch digital designers are happy to let the public look behind the scenes at their youngest projects. Special attention for the world of robots and artificial intelligence. More info.

SMART CITY AND THE PARTICIPATION SOCIETY
How do the ambitions of Smart City Eindhoven relate to the reality of the participation society? Het Nieuwe Instituut and the Municipality of Eindhoven have been considering this very topic since 1 June 2015 in a multi-year cultural programme. During this conference, a so-called Smart Board of six scientists, thinkers and designers will be appointed who will scrutinize the ambitions of Eindhoven and formulate an action plan. More info.

DDW TALKS
It is really impossible to see everything in the simply huge DDW programme, certainly in a single day. Who do you really have to have seen? What would be a sin to miss? And where do you begin? Get your visit off to a flying start with the DDW Talks. Every morning, visitors can take a seat at ‘My First DDW’ for an introductory lecture by a designer or design specialist. If you are interested in something deeper, have a look behind the scenes at lunch time with the world’s idealists at ‘It’s your World’. More info.

It’s your World, daily, Klokgebouw (Mind the Step stage), from 12:30 hours.

CREATE OUT LOUD
MU in Strijp-S forms the backdrop for the refreshing talk show Create out loud. Design is positioned amongst current news every day. Makers, consumers and thinkers enter a dialogue. At the same time, new journalism is explored. For example, the VPRO Medialab is experimenting more with virtual reality. Create out loud is a MU and Design Academy Eindhoven initiative. Partners: VPRO, Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie, Designhuis, Baltan Laboratories and DDW. More info and the complete programme.

GOOD MORNING DESIGN!
Apart from the exhibition ‘In No Particular Order’ (in the Veemgebouw), the Stimuleringsfonds is organizing five inspiring morning sessions (in MU), with a different central theme each time.

Monday 19 until Friday 23, MU, commences 09:30 hours (incl. coffee and croissant). 

Entry is free, register per event.

COLLEGETOUR
DDW ambassador Jurgen Bey opens a dialogue with – and answers questions from – students and design lovers. The dynamic evening, led by design journalist Jeroen Junte, will be alternated with Pecha Kucha presentations by young talents. More info.

DUTCH DESIGN AWARDS SHOW 
Dutch Design Awards (DDA) annually presents and rewards the best of Dutch design. During a celebratory awards show - this year for the first time in the Effenaar – an international jury will announce the winners in the usual categories Fashion, Product, Communication, Habitat, Design Research and Service & Systems. On this occasion, the special Young Designer Award, the Best Client Award (best commissioner) and BNO Piet Zwart Prize will be presented. More info and tickets.

AGE OF WONDERLAND
Age of Wonderland, organised by Baltan Laboratories, Hivos in cooperation with DDW, is an exciting program in which creative thinkers, doers, inventors, artists and designers take on the challenges on food production, consumption, and distribution. Six creatives from Africa, Asia and Latin America come to Eindhoven to exchange knowledge and further their research in Eindhoven with the local community and professionals. 

In 9 days, 1 exhibition, 21 activities (events, workshops, lectures and presentations), 14 guided tours and 1 seminar will take place at Baltan Laboratories, Natlab.

VPRO TEGENLICHT MEET-UP ‘GIMME SHELTER’
What can we do for  refugees? On Sunday 18 October VPRO will broadcast the Tegenlicht episode ’Gimme shelter’, with new ideas and solutions for the growing influx of refugees. Many people want to help now with clothing and shelter and some designers are already busy with surprising solutions. Want to join the debate ‘Gimme Shelter’? Come to the Design house in Eindhoven on Thursday 22 October 2015 from 19:00 until 22:30.
