Dutch Design Week theme announced: If not us, then who?

With just under seven weeks to go until the opening, the 17th edition of Dutch Design Week (DDW) is starting to really take shape. Today the theme is revealed, and part of the programme is on the all-new website, that is organised as a content platform for design.

These are the ambassadors for Dutch Design Week 2018

Ravi Naidoo (Design Indaba), Laurens van den Acker (Renault) and Wendy Plomp (Dutch Invertuals) are the ambassadors of the 17th Dutch Design Week (DDW). The ambassadors deploy their network to create links, function as a sounding board for participants and visitors, and initiate special activities during the week.

The great atmosphere was given a boost this year by a progressive music programme with 70 artists in various locations across the city. With a total of more than 16,000 visitors three quarters of the performances were sell-outs.

Dutch Design Week (DDW) and World Design Event (WDE) look back on a successful edition with more than 335,000 visitors. A week full of creative connections, groundbreaking design and innovation. The quality of the event especially is on the up; in addition to exhibitions there was ample space for discussion and debate about designing our future. Companies, professionals, government, media and designers exchanged ideas throughout the week. The first edition of the World Design Event was met with great enthusiasm. Furthermore, the international press and professionals were better represented than ever before.
DDF and New Horizon go for circular Dutch Design Week

VPRO and DDW announce new television programme: “De toekomstbouwers”: eight young DDW designers take center stage

For the last five years, VPRO and Dutch Design Week (DDW) have worked together as content partners on behalf of design. From this intensive and fruitful partnership, a new television programme has developed. In “De toekomstbouwers” (The future builders), well-known Dutch actor and writer Wilfried de Jong speaks with eight emergent designers from DDW who are shaping our future. During the programme three jury members Afaina de Jong (architect), Koert van Mensvoort (artist and philosopher) and Martijn Paulen (director Dutch Design Foundation) will actively engage with the talents, listening, asking questions and finally will award one of the designers with the VPRO Future Builders Grant of 10,000 euros.
Crowdfunding Dutch Design announces projects

Twelve design projects have been selected for the second edition of Crowdfunding Dutch Design. In October the financing campaigns will commence via the online platforms Kickstarter and Voordekunst. During Dutch Design Week, from 21 until 29 October, they will be on show in the Klokgebouw in Eindhoven.
Designers and NS work together to reinvent travelling by train

NS (Dutch railways) aims to improve the travelling experience now and in the future. Earlier this year they challenged designers to develop ideas through which passengers would have more choice about how to spend their travelling time. Four concepts have been developed and can be tested by the passengers themselves in the trains travelling to Dutch Design Week in October.

Architect Winy Maas (MVRDV), designers Lonny van Ryswyck and Nadine Sterk (Atelier NL) and journalist Marcus Fairs (Dezeen) are the ambassadors for this edition of Dutch Design Week (DDW). New this year is the appointment of not two but three ambassadors. This decision has been taken to underpin the international nature of the ambassadorship, something that all three ambassadors are known for, according to the organisation behind DDW (Dutch Design Foundation).

Successful 15th DDW attracts more than 295,000 visitors

Dutch Design Week (DDW) looks back on a successful 15th edition. Eindhoven manifested itself as the centre of design and the future showcasing work of 2500 designers during the nine days of the festival. Their ideas and solutions give us a new perspective on current topics and issues, as well as make DDW an event with global impact. Due to the comprehensive programme of talk shows, debates and live music, visitors were able to reminisce long after closing of the exhibitions. The event attracted an estimated record number of 295,000 visitors.

On Tuesday 25 October 2016 Queen Máxima visited Dutch Design Week (DDW) in Eindhoven. With more than 275,000 visitors DDW is the biggest design event in Northern Europe. She spoke with designers about the status of Dutch Design. She also visited the Klokgebouw, one of the DDW main locations. She visited the exhibition The Making of Your World with work by designers who want to improve the world, the exhibition Mind the Step with work by students from the three Dutch universities of technology and she spoke with designers on the Ketelhuisplein.

Following two years of preparation, the World Design Weeks Network (WDWN) will be officially launched during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. In a special meeting, the nine promoters will sign the incorporation documents, detailing the programme and communication for the coming three years.
