Lex Hoefsloot is the winner of 'De Toekomstbouwers' 2018. On Saturday evening 27 October, he won the 'VPRO Toekomst Bouwdepot' (ed. building deposit) of €10,000 with his project Lightyear, a car entirely powered by solar energy. The jury, consisting of Martijn Paulen (director of the Dutch Design Foundation), Afaina de Jong (architect) and Koert van Mensvoort (artist and philosopher) considered Hoefsloot as the ultimate Toekomstbouwer (ed. Future Builder) because of its inventive solutions for the mobility issue.

Courtesy of 2,600 (inter)national designers, Dutch Design Week (DDW) can be seen as the lab of the future showcasing vision in conceptual and technological innovation as well as in the renewal of crafts and systems. DDW was spread over 120 locations where 355.000 professionals, industry representatives, governments, visitors and journalists enjoyed 499 exhibitions, lectures, tours and labs.
