Design Week (DDW) and the Effenaar reflect on a successful third edition of DDW
Music. The great atmosphere was given a boost this year by a progressive music
programme with 70 artists in various locations across the city. With a total of
more than 16,000 visitors three quarters of the performances were sell-outs.
The third edition of DDW Music, a collaboration with pop podium the Effenaar and booking agency Friendly Fire, contributed to the festival feeling of DDW, but also built a bridge between music and design. A resounding example was the DDW Music Lab on the Ketelhuisplein, with interactive installations, lectures and workshops by composers Jeroen Strijbos, Rob van Rijswijk, sound designer William Aikman and producer/vocalist Chagall.
To crown it all
For the first time the concert sensation was maximised by the decor and stage design by five designers, including Joost van Bleiswijk, Thijs Gilde and Studio Big Mistake. Also new was the concert location on the Piet Hein Eek complex, with pianist shows by Luke Howard and Matteo Myderwyk. It was all crowned with the dance evening by media partner Dezeen in the Effenaar, served up by collective Omnipresent World of Wizkids (OWOW), Bart van de Sande, ZES and Polynation.

Dutch Design Week
Each year in October Dutch Design Week (DDW) takes place in Eindhoven for nine whole days. The biggest design event in Northern Europe presents work and ideas by more than 2600 designers to more than 335,000 national and international visitors. Distributed over around about one hundred locations throughout the city, DDW organises and facilitates exhibitions, lectures, prize awards, network meetings, debates and festivities. DDW distinguishes itself from other design events through concentrating on designs for the future. Although during the event every imaginable discipline and aspect of design is on show, the emphasis is on experiment, innovation and cross-overs. Every year, special attention goes to the work and development of young talent. www.ddw.nl
