Morning session at MU in the context of Stimuleringsfonds@DDW16: expo’s & events

MakerSpaces, innovation labs, city labs and workshops are for many people a realm that remains unfamiliar, despite the fact that nowadays dozens of labs are active throughout the Netherlands and beyond. In this morning session, Frank Kresin (Waag Society) enters into discussion with various labs about their role and position in society, and about their motivation for setting up an open experimental space. In creative labs people work in an innovative and often experimental way on pressing assignments and topical issues, often on tasks that local governments, private parties or educational institutions are unable to tackle swiftly. They do this with a view to artistic or social innovation and enduring renewal.

But when do you employ a lab as a working method and how do you organize this? What are the opportunities and challenges presented by such a methodology? What position do labs occupy and how do they relate to stakeholders from the public or private sector? Creative Industries Fund NL poses these questions in the guise of presentations by various labs, in order to provide insight into how labs function and clarify their value.
