Have you ever dreamt of sleeping within a 9-m high room? Have you ever dreamt of sleeping in a bed with a view over the rooftops of an entire city? How would it feel like to sleep inside a vertical garden? What if your room would be made of stairs? Would you dare to sleep inside a billboard room? How would it feel to sleep in a room with a waterfall? How would it feel to sleep in a room with a skylight? Or inside a golden grotto? How does your dream room look like?
Based on the hypothesis of maximum density achievement and maximum desire fulfillment, the (W)ego installation The Future City is Flexible explores the potentials of desire-based design processes capable of introducing the users’ wishes in the construction of housing and the city.
The (W)ego installation located at Marktplein square is part of a research conducted by the Why Factory that investigates participatory processes applied to lodging. Our life-size installation will allow visitors to indeed participate and interact choosing the accommodation of their dreams. (W)ego establishes a negotiation between the competing desires of each of the users and helps them determine the design of their units as a result of such negotiation, in the fairest possible way.(W)ego proposes a new urban model whose primal matter is the users’ most elaborate fantasies. It aspires to reconstruct, in a dense urban environment, a participative dream, a living mosaic that contains an unlimited amount of desired accommodation solutions.

Exhibition design: The Why Factory
Organized by MVRDV and The Why Factory
Imagine a scenario where Architecture exchanges metaphors with Science, and in doing so, a shift in perspective occurs that allows for multiple ways to create future visions. As an ambassador of DDW 2017, Winy Maas curates with MVRDV, The Why Factory, Gemeente Eindhoven, TU Eindhoven and Dutch Design Week four interventions exploring the future of cities. Products of the future city in The Future City is Wide by The Why Factory, Copy Paste, a bad ass guide for becoming a Starchitect, (W)ego , a 9 meter high, habitable installation, ICI Eindhoven: Here we come about the future of the city of Eindhoven, with workshops on the question: What do the Eindhovenaars want?
These interventions all bear witness to the centrality of research in the work of MVRDV/The Why Factory.
