With last year’s “The Essence of Things” we showed you an exploration of substance and matter that makes up everything around us. In 2017, BioArt Laboratories has set its sights on transformation and change. We will embrace the diversity offered by the crossover between scientific and artistic research through the overall theme of metamorphosis.
Traditionally, metamorphosis is viewed as a significant developmental stage in the life history of an organism: the change from one form to another - from the caterpillar to the butterfly. Yet, this biological principle also resonates within other disciplines such as folklore, literature and fine arts.
With “Lost in Transformation” we, together with a selected group of young, talented artists and designers, want to lose ourselves in the possibilities and implications of change, experience the journey of transformation and maybe come out the other side ever so slightly different.
We will not only explore the conversion of organic or non-organic materials into new ideas and innovations, but also look at the societal and ethical implications that can be brought upon by transformation. Therefore join us in one of our debates about opportunities and boundaries connected to the exhibition; what can we accomplish? What dare we imagine? What must never be attempted? After all, as no other force on earth, we humans mold our own environment and transform the available to the desired.

BioArt Laboratories is a catalyst for crossover innovations, new bio-materials and facilitates crossover talents and entrepreneurship in Eindhoven.
The foundation for a sustainable bio-based society is formed by a world of unlimited possibilities where science, nature, technology and creativity go hand in hand. As a pioneer in this field, BioArt Laboratories offers an inspiring environment to experiment and develop new ideas. At BioArt Laboratories we offer students, artists and professionals an inspiring place to experiment, materials and expertise from different angles so they can develop new ideas and concepts!
BioArt Laboratories has been founded in 2011 by Jalila Essaïdi and established physical foothold at Philips TQ in Strijp-T, Eindhoven in 2012. After five inspiring and eventful years BioArt Laboratories is now moving to ‘de Duitse Woningen’, a place in the middle of the nature in rural Strijp. This new location enables BioArt Laboratories to build a BioArt Village and fulfill its dreams to grow into a self-sufficient location. Here there is space for the hybrid laboratory, exhibition rooms, a breeding pond and an experimental botanical garden. A whole BioArt Village!
