StoneCycling makes unique building materials from waste. Around 25 million tons of building and demolition waste is created each year in the Netherlands, making it the country’s biggest waste stream. Ninety percent is allegedly recycled; however, in real terms it ends up in landfills or as filling for roads, which in fact is downcycling. Instead, StoneCycling adds value to this waste material by upcycling it into new, circular building materials. In this way, we utilise the waste’s economic, aesthetic and sustainable qualities. At present, these new building materials are used to construct new buildings, making StoneCycling one of the pioneers of the transformation into a circular economy.

Colofon

Curator: Van Eijk & Van der Lubbe

Organized by ABN AMRO

As main sponsor, ABN AMRO wants to give young designers a stage – literally. To this end, the bank has teamed up with Van Eijk & Van der Lubbe and set up six ABN AMRO Hotspots at Strijp S (in front of Klokgebouw on Philitelaan), where designers will be able to present themselves. A permanent platform has been designed for the central lobby of ABN AMRO’s office on Vestdijk, also in Eindhoven. The giant, one-metre high wing nut that adorns the hotspots symbolises the joining of forces and setting things in motion, which ties in nicely with the goals of the hotspots: bringing young, talented designers into contact with other parties.
