DATAdeserts

Municipalities know all sorts of things about their residents and neighbourhoods. So plenty of data. But there are various subjects for which digital data are absent, the so-called DATAdeserts. Consider topics like loneliness or how many people would like to be volunteers and what kind of volunteerwork that would entail.

The DATAstudio (an Eindhoven Municipality and Het Nieuwe Instituut initiative) will explore together with civil servants, designers, data specialists and Eindhoven residents how to make DATA visible in these deserts. Which digital data and other ways of information collection are required for this? The objective of the design session is to give the stories behind these data deserts a voice in the public debate and in the municipal policy.

Albert Jan Kruiter (co-founder Instituut voor Publieke Waarden) will act as the design session moderator. Professor Tsjalling Swierstra (Maastricht University) will provide feedback on the tangible proposals the participants think up during the session.

The DATAstudio organises activities concerning the question of how - instead of becoming a smart city - you can become a smart society. The DATAstudio delivers input for the research programme De Staat van Eindhoven, about the smart city in relation to the participation society.
